Woman Recounts Chilling Childhood Experience of Abuse by Aunt

A woman has opened up about a distressing recollection from her childhood that remains etched in her memory.

She shared that her parents had sent her to live with her uncle and aunt during a religious conflict in Kaduna to shield her from potential danger.

The woman recounted an incident in which her aunt physically punished her for not assisting her cousin with schoolwork. When she sought help from her uncle during the beating, the aunt reacted aggressively towards him for stepping in.

She reminisced: "Due to the sharia conflict in Kaduna, my parents sent me to stay with my uncle for a period. My uncle’s wife beat me for not helping her daughter with her homework because I was busy with my own, and in my desperation, I ran to my uncle for refuge.

"He angrily took me to confront her, aware that my father would be furious. As we approached her, he began questioning her actions, but she violently yanked him by his shirt, threw both of us onto the sofa, and assaulted us both.

"I have never seen such aggression from a wife in my life; my father eventually came for me that weekend.

"All of my uncles and aunts were terrified of her until she passed away.”
