Oliver “Power” Grant, a prominent founding figure of the iconic hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, has sadly passed away at the age of 52.

The news of Grant's death was shared by fellow Wu-Tang artist Method Man through an emotional post on Instagram on Tuesday.

In his tribute, Method Man, aged 54, wrote, “Paradise my Brother safe Travels!!” alongside a picture featuring the two together.

The announcement of Grant’s death was also made via Instagram by the hip-hop publication Okayplayer. It was reported that he died on February 23, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.

“Grant was a driving force behind one of the most influential movements in hip-hop, helping to forge a worldwide legacy grounded in independence, ownership, and culture,” Okayplayer expressed in their post. “His dedication to creative control and community empowerment was instrumental in the formation of a group, as well as a dynasty that transformed music forever.

“His legacy will continue through the culture he enriched and the many lives he motivated,” they added.

Born on November 3, 1973, in Jamaica, Grant later relocated to New York City, growing up in Staten Island alongside fellow Wu-Tang members including RZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna.

Throughout his career, Grant served as executive producer for all of the Wu- Tang Clan's albums and was the creator of the successful Wu Wear clothing brand.

In a 2011 interview, Grant reflected on the skepticism surrounding the clothing line, noting, “My crew had plenty of skeptics, doubters, and non- believers.” He emphasized the individuality of the brand and how some people misunderstood his vision and intentions.

In addition to his contributions to music, Grant also pursued acting, appearing in the 1998 film “Belly” with Method Man and in “Black and White” the following year.

Other Wu-Tang Clan members, such as RZA, GZA, and Raekwon, have also shared their tributes following Grant's passing.

GZA, 59, conveyed his grief on Instagram, stating, “We couldn’t have done it without him. Wu wouldn’t have come to fruition without Power. His passing is a profound loss to us all. My deepest condolences to the fam.”
