Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has appealed to Nigerian clerics, both Muslim and Christian, to dedicate prayers towards the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other governmental leaders.

This appeal was made on Tuesday during a gathering with chief imams from Jummat mosques throughout the state. The meeting, which was part of the first phase for religious leaders, saw the attendance of over 800 imams, according to a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.

Governor Buni articulated that Nigeria currently requires prayers to counteract malevolent influences, both domestic and foreign, to ensure the prevalence of peace and national progress.

He stressed the indispensable link between peace and meaningful development, stating, "This is precisely why it is crucial for us to unite and support our leaders in safeguarding our country."

The governor also recalled the state's past adversities during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency, referencing the significant loss of life, mass displacement, and destruction of property.

"We cannot afford to revert to such a situation. Therefore, we must stand behind our leaders to ensure Nigeria remains unified and tranquil."

Governor Buni added, "We express gratitude to God for the relative peace we currently enjoy, and we must not jeopardize it. We will provide our full support to the federal government to protect this peace assiduously."

Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, noted that the primary objective of the meeting was to remind the Imams of their critical role in praying for Nigeria and its leadership.

He further indicated that the subsequent phase of the engagement would involve pastors and leaders from various Christian denominations across the state.
