Chief Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has made his return to Nigeria after being taken off the wanted list. His arrival occurred on Monday after an extended period of self-exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Upon his return, he was welcomed by supporters at his home in Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State, where they offered prayers for his safe return and also prayed for President Bola Tinubu and the traditional rulers who played a role in resolving his situation.
Reflecting on his past experiences, a visibly emotional Igboho shared how during the late President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, he had been declared wanted. He faced difficulties such as being denied a Nigerian passport and having his bank accounts frozen, despite favorable court decisions.
Igboho recounted that he fled Nigeria on July 1, 2021, following a raid on his home by a collaborative team from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army, which was prompted by accusations of him stockpiling arms and ammunition.
In 2024, he briefly returned to Nigeria for his mother's funeral, only to return to exile shortly after. Following his homecoming, Igboho visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who received him warmly, expressing joy at his return and offered prayers for his ongoing success.
Showing appreciation, Igboho acknowledged Oba Ladoja's significant role in securing his freedom, noting that the monarch consistently checked on him during his time in Cotonou and actively involved Yoruba elders on his behalf.
