Yusuf Tuggar, who serves as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is anticipated to resign on Monday in order to chase his ambition of becoming the governor of Bauchi State, according to a statement from one of his aides.

This decision aligns with a directive from President Bola Tinubu, instructing all ministers and political appointees with aspirations for the 2027 elections to resign by March 31. This message was relayed through a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

The minister's aide, wishing to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter, stated that Tuggar is finalizing plans to step down and to prepare for the nomination process within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tuggar's resignation follows the completion of the APC's recent National Convention for 2026, during which most officials of the party's National Working Committee retained their positions without opposition.

Supporters from Bauchi State who attended the convention demonstrated optimism that Tuggar would soon make an official announcement regarding his gubernatorial campaign, citing increasing political momentum surrounding his potential candidacy.

Additionally, Tuggar's upcoming move has garnered praise from both supporters and political analysts.

Before assuming his current role in 2023, Tuggar represented Gamawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, having been elected in 2007. He also served as Nigeria's Ambassador to Germany from 2017 until 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

As the deadline for resignations draws near, attention is expected to centre on how influential political figures will navigate their ambitions within the changing electoral environment and its effects on governance continuity and political stability.

Analysts emphasize that Tuggar has established a noteworthy standing in diplomatic and policy-making circles, emphasizing governance based on solid policy frameworks.

A close source indicated that Tuggar's anticipated entry into the gubernatorial race in Bauchi could significantly alter the state's political dynamics, where debates concerning leadership increasingly highlight the importance of experience, credibility, and development capabilities.

The 2027 gubernatorial election in Bauchi is already receiving considerable attention as stakeholders evaluate governance objectives and the future direction of leadership.
