Nollywood star Zack Orji, who previously served as the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has voiced his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, Orji had publicly endorsed Tinubu, who was then the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Orji, along with other notable actors such as Jide Kosoko and Saheed Balogun, was appointed to the APC Presidential Campaign Council, reflecting their commitment to the party and its goals.
In light of growing dissatisfaction towards the current administration in 2025, Orji appealed to fellow Nigerians to exercise patience with President Tinubu. He emphasized that this period requires unity and understanding.
The actor highlighted significant advancements, pointing out that, “It has been 55 and a half years since the end of the Nigerian civil war, and for the first time in the country’s history, a president has established the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) along with the Southeast Investment Company, which has an initial capital of N150 billion.”
Orji passionately defended the inclusive nature of Tinubu’s leadership. He rejected the notion that Igbos engage exclusively in tribal politics, asserting that many in the Igbo community support Tinubu due to his previous actions and inclusive strategies during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State.
In a discussion shared on the KaaTruths Podcast, Orji noted that among the three primary candidates in the presidential race, he viewed Tinubu as the most qualified individual capable of executing necessary reforms for the country’s progress.
He stated, “I can’t rest easy if I don’t express my beliefs. Other Igbo individuals have rallied behind him, perhaps influenced by similar motivations. Since 1979, I have made Lagos my home until recently, when I relocated to Abuja two years ago after undergoing surgery.”
The actor reflected on how Tinubu’s record showed commitment to inclusivity, mentioning that throughout his governorship, he ensured that there was always an Igbo individual occupying a significant position within his cabinet.
Orji also conveyed his admiration for Tinubu's track record of supporting individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, stating, “He has promoted people from his ethnic group and beyond, showcasing an exemplary model of inclusivity that is crucial for Nigeria’s future.”
When discussing the current state of Nigerian democracy, Orji asserted that it has brought about improvements across different sectors of the nation, though he acknowledged the issue of disrespect that can arise within a democratic setting. He reiterated, “Democracy allows representation from diverse backgrounds to unite and advocate for their communities, which is fundamentally beneficial. How effectively it is executed remains a separate issue.”
