Zamfara First Lady Convenes Northern Governors' Wives, Focus on Water Projects

The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hurriya Dauda Lawal, hosted the Northern Governors’ Spouses’ Forum, where attendees agreed to continue borehole drilling initiatives to address water scarcity in rural areas. The forum also planned new projects for 2026 and the annual observance of International Charity Day.

Hurriya Dauda Lawal, the First Lady of Zamfara State, welcomed members of the Northern Governors’ Spouses’ Forum to Gusau on Thursday. During their meeting, the group resolved to persist with borehole drilling projects aimed at alleviating water challenges in communities outside urban centres.

The forum's quarterly meeting, which took place at the Zamfara State Government House, concluded with the issuance of a communiqué signed by Asmau Mohammed Inuwa and the forum's secretary, Lami Fintiri.

The gathering was presided over by Asma'u Inuwa Yahaya and convened wives of governors from across Nigeria's northern states. Their discussions centered on significant issues impacting the region.

According to the issued communiqué, the forum reviewed current activities, evaluated the progress of ongoing initiatives, and discussed plans for future endeavors designed to enhance the well-being of women, children, and other vulnerable segments of society.

"Following comprehensive and constructive deliberations, the forum decided to carry forward the borehole drilling project in each state as a measure to tackle water supply issues," the statement indicated.

It was also announced that the forum would introduce a new project in 2026 and commit to observing International Charity Day each year on September 5.

The Northern Governors' Spouses' Forum further agreed to convene its subsequent meeting in four months.

The participating spouses reiterated their dedication to fostering positive change and improving living standards throughout the northern region.

"Members restated their shared commitment to collaborate with unity and shared purpose for the advancement of the region," the communiqué concluded.
