The attack took place around 6:16 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, close to Kucheri village. Lugga was on his way back to Gusau following an official assignment.

Sources indicate that the assailants appeared on both sides of the road and began firing at the vehicle carrying the chief of staff, his driver, and two other passengers.

A bullet reportedly struck the vehicle's windscreen, narrowly missing the driver. An attempt by another assailant to fire at close range was thwarted when the weapon reportedly malfunctioned.

Despite the direct assault, the driver managed to successfully navigate the vehicle away from the ambush site, ensuring that all occupants emerged from the incident unharmed.
