Police in Zamfara State have detained a man suspected of gun running and confiscated 800 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition that were concealed in a motorcycle's fuel tank.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the suspect, identified as Mannir Adam, 25, hails from Yankuzo village within the Tsafe Local Government Area. He was arrested on March 10, 2026, around 7:50 p.m. at the Yankara checkpoint along the Gusau–Funtua federal highway.
Police officers conducting routine patrols intercepted the suspect as he rode a red Boxer motorcycle. A detailed search initiated upon his interception led to the discovery of the ammunition inside the motorcycle's fuel tank.
Initial investigations indicated that the suspect was en route from Unguwar Bawa in the Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State to Kucheri village located in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Abubakar added that the suspect, along with the recovered ammunition, has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries.
