Singer Zayn Malik has made it clear that he feels he has never genuinely experienced love, including in his relationship with model Gigi Hadid.
During an appearance on the podcast 'Call Her Daddy' hosted by Alex Cooper, Malik revisited a comment he had made two years prior, where he stated he did not believe he had ever encountered true love.
When asked if he still held that belief, the former One Direction star affirmed that he did. "My understanding of love is always evolving. At that specific time, I might have thought it was love, but as I matured, I came to realize it perhaps wasn't. Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was something else... I don't feel like it was love," he explained.
However, Malik clarified that he continues to have deep affection for Hadid, with whom he shares a daughter, Khai, who was born in September 2020. "I will always love G, because she's the reason my child is here, and I have immense respect for her. I will always love her, but I don't know if I was ever in love with her," he expressed.
Malik and Hadid's relationship came to an end in 2021, following a widely publicized altercation involving Hadid's mother, Yolanda Hadid. Allegations arose that Malik had physically confronted Yolanda, which contributed significantly to the collapse of their relationship.
In the time since their split, the duo has appeared to foster a cooperative co-parenting dynamic while striving to keep the details of their personal lives mostly out of the limelight.
