Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has declared that the era of Boko Haram informants and those who sympathize with them is finished, promising that they would be located and held accountable under the law.

The governor made this assertion in a televised address on Thursday.

He pointed out that the recent increase in terrorist activities is a direct result of ongoing and aggressive military operations in the area.

"To those providing information to terrorists, offering them refuge, and supporting them logistically, your time is up," Zulum stated.

He further emphasized, "You are not true patriots; rather, you are enemies of the state. We will pursue you relentlessly and ensure you face the full force of the law. Your actions undermine our collective peace, and we will no longer accept them."

Zulum expressed grave concern over the recent rise in insecurity across various parts of the state observed in the last few weeks.

“As the Chief Security Officer, I want to reassure everyone that while the security situation is being tested, it remains manageable, and we are committed to doing everything possible to safeguard lives and property,” he said.

"In the past seven years, we have tirelessly worked to restore peace and prosperity in our land. We have consistently responded with prompt, effective measures whenever necessary.

"We have not allowed the destructive ambitions of bad elements to take root; instead, we are cultivating hope and resilience within the communities impacted by the conflict."

He emphasized that through extensive consultations and strategic planning, supported by the security agencies and the civilian Joint Task Force, they have achieved notable success in restoring peace.

Zulum cautioned that the decline in terrorist attacks should not be misconstrued as the end of the insurgency. "We remain acutely aware that a lot more needs to be done to rectify the root causes of this violence and the arbitrary attacks on our peace-loving citizens," he added.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of brave soldiers, security agents, and volunteers who have sacrificed their lives while on duty.

“My sympathies also go to each civilian affected by this turmoil. Your courage is the foundation of our state, and the collective power of prayer is a weapon that no enemy can withstand,” he remarked.

Additionally, Zulum expressed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighting the respect he has shown towards the nation’s second-in-command.

He briefly addressed his successor, noting that tensions are likely to escalate as the 2027 elections approach.

He reminded everyone that power is given by God, and called on the populace to pray for a deserving successor.

“I would also like to convey my gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima for representing the President during the sympathy visit following the recent unfortunate events.

“I urge our citizens, as the political climate heats up, to align our political objectives with the pressing security challenges we face, including threats from insurgencies and the necessity for community stability. We must not let politics disrupt the peace we have worked hard to establish. I thus urge all aspirants and their supporters to prioritize the greater good of Borno State over personal ambitions.

“Since I took office in 2019, I have been fair, just, and inclusive in my engagements with the entire political class. My loyalty to His Excellency, the Vice President is clear.

“As a leader, I have embraced all groups, and I have never betrayed the trust of members of the national or state assemblies, or any political office holders from Borno, at either the state or national levels.

“I call upon all political figures to be cautious of those attempting to exploit the current context to create unnecessary political instability.

“As we contemplate the future and elect a new leader for our state, I encourage all citizens to fervently pray for a suitable successor. Remember, power belongs to Allah, and He bestows it upon whomever He chooses.
