The Airport Police Command has taken into custody a 14-year-old boy, identified as Eke Miracle, for attempting to stowaway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

This event unfolded on Monday when the young boy was found on the airport tarmac, allegedly trying to access the underside of an aircraft, an act authorities deemed a grave violation of aviation security measures.

As reported by ASP Mohammed Adeola, the Police Public Relations Officer at the Airport Police Command, initial investigations indicated that the minor had unlawfully entered a secured section of the airport without permission, contravening the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) regulations.

Following his apprehension, the suspect was secured and dealt with according to child protection laws.

His parents were informed right when the incident occurred, and all proceedings, including interviews, took place in their presence.

The Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, reiterated the command’s dedication to protecting vital aviation infrastructure. She emphasized the necessity for strict adherence to security procedures at airports, classified as sensitive areas.

Furthermore, she called on parents and guardians to exercise increased vigilance regarding the whereabouts of minors, especially in and around restricted zones.

The police stated that the case will be processed in accordance with juvenile justice provisions, ensuring that the minor is presented before the suitable court.

Authorities have affirmed their commitment to uphold safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector while also ensuring the welfare and protection of minors involved in such situations.
