The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, the incident was reported to the police on March 3 by the girl's mother. Following the report, the case was promptly forwarded to the gender-based offences unit for a thorough investigation.
Mr. Jimoh explained that the mother of the victim alleged that the assault occurred on February 28, 2026, around 7:00 p.m. at Ehin Ala, the area where her children reside. The accused, identified as Imeje Mathew, reportedly enticed the minor into a nearby bush by pretending to offer assistance.
He added that after the minor visited the suspect's shop to charge her mother’s phone, he forcibly raped her.
Currently, the girl is receiving medical care at a local hospital while the suspect is in police custody. Investigators are diligently working on the case to ensure the perpetrator faces justice.
