The internal conflict within the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani has declared the party's recent congresses invalid.
A committee dispatched from the ADC national secretariat, headed by General Ishaya Bauka, announced the successful completion of congresses at the polling unit, ward, and state levels, resulting in Barrister Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin and 53 other officials being elected to lead the party.
This development occurs despite a subsisting High Court order that had put a halt to the exercise pending the resolution of a lawsuit filed by the party's former chairman, Comrade Shehu Yohanna.
Senator Binani articulated her rejection of the congress results while addressing supporters at a solidarity rally. She explained that her faction, committed to upholding the law, refrained from participating in the exercise due to the questionable circumstances surrounding it.
Speaking at the rally in Yola on Monday, Binani expressed her dissatisfaction with the Gen. Bauka-led committee, accusing them of misrepresenting facts and failing to adhere to the complete congress procedures.
She reassured her supporters that their trust in her would not be misplaced and urged them to remain patient, promising that decisive actions would be taken soon to protect the interests of her political movement.
During the rally, a prominent ADC figure, Peter Hardly Dilli, voiced his strong disapproval of the situation. He pointed fingers at a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, alleging their involvement as the mastermind behind the current internal strife within the party.
Dilli revealed that the coalition had previously agreed on a power-sharing arrangement for the party, dividing it into three blocs: Senator Binani's bloc, the Transition bloc led by Sadiq Dasin, and the ADC party legacy bloc under Shehu Yohanna. This was intended to accommodate all political interests within the party.
He further detailed the agreed-upon formula, which allocated 33% of the party's structure to the Transition group, Senator Binani's group, and the Legacy/Party group, with a nominal 1% reserved for a bloc associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Dilli also questioned the executive council led by Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin for their alleged deliberate refusal to comply with the court's directive that suspended the ADC party congresses.
Adding his voice at the solidarity rally, former Senator Ahmed Barata stated that the meeting was convened out of necessity to address the pressing issue of political adjustments.
Barata announced that the Binani bloc would soon communicate its future course of action, which could include withdrawing from the platform or taking steps to rectify the perceived flaws in the party's current structure.
Political observers in Adamawa State have cautioned that if these internal divisions are not promptly resolved, the ADC could face significant challenges in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
