The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong disapproval regarding the Federal Government's deployment of security personnel and armoured vehicles to the main office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, challenged the government's allocation of priorities, particularly when contrasted with the prevalent security issues affecting various parts of the nation.

Abdullahi stated, “This administration did not deploy armoured tanks to safeguard the residents of Plateau State earlier this week. They also did not deploy them to engage the bandits, whom they refer to as ‘prodigal sons’ and ‘brothers.’ However, armoured vehicles were positioned at the INEC headquarters in Abuja to shield themselves from ordinary Nigerians who were peacefully assembled. Show me your priorities, and I will reveal your true identity,” he remarked.

This criticism emerges during a period of elevated political tension, following INEC's recent decision to withdraw recognition from the ADC leadership associated with Senator David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Despite this development, the party maintains its resolve to proceed with its scheduled congresses and national convention.

During a television interview, Abdullahi reiterated that the ADC had adhered to all required procedural steps in preparation for these events. “We have already provided INEC with the mandatory 21-day notification for our congresses and national convention. The process will continue irrespective of whether the commission chooses to participate or not,” he confirmed.
