Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is actively positioning itself to unseat the current administration and seize control of Aso Rock in the upcoming general elections of 2027.
Oyegun conveyed this conviction to delegates during the ADC's national convention held in Abuja, asserting the party's preparedness to assume national leadership.
"We are prepared to occupy Aso Rock, and the approach will differ significantly from what has been," Oyegun stated. He addressed criticisms suggesting his involvement with the current ruling party, saying, "I want everyone to understand that they frequently accuse me, saying 'John, you were part of them.'"
The former governor of Edo State lamented the paradox of Nigeria's abundant natural resources coexisting with persistent hardship for its citizens, attributing this situation to a long-standing failure in leadership.
"We stand as the most populous black nation globally. This position was divinely ordained, yet observe the state we have reduced it to," he remarked.
He further highlighted that the leadership of the ADC offers a fresh promise of change, emphasizing the party's commitment to undertaking a national mission of redemption.
"Therefore, I am immensely pleased when I observe our chairman and the leaders surrounding him, and I can say, 'Thank God, we are ready for this fight, and thank God, we are prepared to move forward,'" he added.
Reinforcing the party's readiness to govern, Oyegun pledged that an ADC-led government would prioritize accountability and enforce repercussions for any misconduct within public office.
"So, let us engage in this battle, let us undertake this struggle, not by dwelling on the past, but by resolving that from the moment we assume office, every individual's actions will carry consequences," he advised.
"If you perform commendably, you will be recognized; if you falter, the world must be aware of your missteps," he asserted.
Drawing a parallel from biblical history to underscore the theme of transformative leadership, Oyegun stated: "Consider the Christian faith. When God intended to establish Christianity, whom did he select? It was Paul, the foremost persecutor of Christians, who was chosen."
He conveyed an optimistic outlook, affirming that the party is already on track to ascend to power at the federal level.
"I wish to assure you that our journey to the Villa has already commenced, and may divine providence grant us the fortitude to accomplish what is necessary to rescue this long-suffering nation," he concluded.
Earlier, the National Secretary of the ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, criticized the present administration's "Renewed Hope" agenda, labelling it a "scam." Aregbesola pointed out that many commitments made by the current government have not been fulfilled nearly three years into its term, raising questions about its governance and delivery capabilities.
