Dr. Adoyi Omale, a specialist in international affairs, has expressed admiration for President Tinubu’s recent trip to the United Kingdom, labeling it a significant diplomatic achievement. Omale highlighted that this visit is pivotal in rekindling Nigeria-Britain relations after a long absence of 37 years.

While speaking with ARISE NEWS, he remarked on Tuesday, "The duration since such engagement has been a lengthy 37 years. It's notable that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received an invitation from the British Crown, and this is extremely positive for our diplomatic efforts."

Omale underscored the necessity for economic diplomacy to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and the UK. He stated, "With the reforms initiated to promote a favorable investment climate and attract foreign direct investment (FDI), we have the potential to draw significant investments from the UK. At the same time, Britain is keen to reconnect with its former allies and colonies within the Commonwealth framework to expand its economic reach and enhance bilateral ties to rejuvenate its economy."

The analyst pointed out Britain's economic challenges following Brexit, indicating that the country is actively seeking new partnerships. He stated, "I am aware that their GDP has seen a considerable decline since the Brexit decision, compelling them to explore fresh collaborations and opportunities. Thus, this engagement with Nigeria should be fully embraced."

Dr. Omale also addressed recent security concerns following an explosion in Maiduguri, suggesting that the consequences should prompt a quest for international support during the President’s visit to the UK. He expressed, "In light of the aftermath of the tragic event in Maiduguri, it’s essential for our President to pursue international aid from the UK, particularly in acquiring advanced equipment and partnership for intelligence sharing, as well as training for our military leaders in counter-terrorism techniques."

He acknowledged public apprehensions regarding the timing of the President's UK visit amidst the Maiduguri incident but emphasized the importance of ongoing diplomatic relations. Dr. Omale remarked, "Given that security is a primary agenda at this diplomatic summit, it is crucial for the President to pursue ways to establish collaborative efforts to tackle these security challenges."

Moreover, he called for a focus on foreign investment during this diplomatic mission, stating, "It’s important that we assure the global community of our readiness to create a secure environment for incoming investments. Hence, ensuring safety and addressing security matters for potential foreign direct investments is vital."

Responding to inquiries about Nigeria's democratic path, Dr. Omale expressed confidence in the resilience and sustainability of the nation’s democracy, despite existing challenges. He noted, "I believe our democracy is thriving and enduring, however, certain entities within the political arena are trying to sabotage this progress."

He elaborated on the challenges faced by political parties, referencing issues such as shifts of allegiance among politicians and mismanagement within party frameworks. Dr. Omale stated, "Many political stakeholders need support in enhancing party capabilities; while efforts have been made by various NGOs, much remains to be done as many parties still lack strength and haven't fully adopted democratic methodologies."

He concluded by emphasizing that collaboration with Britain could further improve Nigeria’s electoral processes and population management strategies, stating, "Partnership with the UK will enhance our electoral framework, which can provide us with vital lessons from British democracy. Additionally, we also require support to address population growth challenges."
