Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has appealed to Christians to utilise the Easter celebrations as an opportunity to pray for the restoration of peace within the state and throughout Nigeria. This call comes in the wake of recent devastating attacks in parts of Jos.

In his Easter message, released on Sunday, the governor highlighted that the observance of Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolises hope and renewal, particularly relevant given the prevailing security challenges faced by the state.

"Easter is more than a spiritual event. It offers a sacred opportunity to reflect on the cornerstone of our faith, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ," Mr. Mutfwang stated. He emphasised that the significance of Easter extends beyond religious observance to providing a moment for profound reflection.

The governor's appeal follows closely after the tragic killings of residents in Angwan Rukuba, located in the Jos North Local Government Area, and subsequent unrest in other areas of the state. These events had escalated tensions and necessitated the imposition of security measures, including curfews and evacuations.

Mr. Mutfwang implored the populace to offer fervent prayers for the victims of these attacks and for the return of peace. "Let us pray fervently for peace in Plateau State, especially for the families affected by the Angwan Rukuba tragic incident that claimed innocent lives," he urged.

He also called for prayers for the nation's leaders and communities, seeking divine assistance for healing, renewal, peace, progress, and prosperity for both Plateau State and the country at large.

The governor commended the Christian community for their observance of the Lenten season and encouraged them to uphold values such as self-denial and spiritual discipline.

He expressed confidence that Plateau State would overcome its current security issues, drawing parallels with the resurrection of Christ, which signifies victory over adversity. "His resurrection assures us of victory over sin, despair, and every adversity," he remarked, reinforcing the message of hope and resilience.

Governor Mutfwang urged citizens to foster unity and embrace shared responsibility in tackling the security challenges confronting the nation.

PREMIUM TIMES has previously reported on a series of violent incidents and retaliatory attacks in Plateau State recently, including the Easter Sunday killings in Angwan Rukuba and the subsequent disturbances in parts of Jos, despite official assurances that the situation was under control.

The governor affirmed that the state government remains committed to efforts aimed at restoring stability and urged all residents to adhere to peaceful conduct and lawful practices.
