The event has also generated 8.5 million new followers, marking it as the most digitally engaged football tournament in Africa's history.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 hosted in Morocco has amassed an impressive 6.1 billion digital impressions alongside 5.2 billion views of its video content across various social media platforms, as reported by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday.

This tournament has seen a surge of 8.5 million new followers, making it the most engaging continental football event in the digital realm ever recorded.

During the tournament, CAF noticed a total of 285 million engagements. TikTok emerged as the primary platform for fan-generated content, with users creating over one million videos using the event's official hashtag. Fans exploited the platform to express their creativity through goal celebration videos, breakdowns of tactics, humorous content, music, and fashion inspired by the championship.

CAF's official statement highlighted that this achievement places Africa’s premier football event at the forefront of global digital engagement, outpacing all similar tournaments worldwide.

A notable digital growth trend was observed, particularly among the African diaspora, where CAF successfully captured millions of new viewers across a variety of platforms. The content from the tournament transcended borders, languages, and cultures at an unprecedented pace.

The confederation remarked, "The digital triumph of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 underscores CAF’s ongoing dedication to innovation, fan engagement, and global expansion."

Additionally, CAF concluded that with record-setting statistics and a lively online community, the tournament has created a new standard for how football is experienced, appreciated, and celebrated globally.

Morocco's organization of the event not only achieved notable digital success but also substantial economic benefits. Industry and Commerce Minister Ryad Mezzour informed the Spanish news agency EFE that direct revenues surpassed €1.5 billion, which will fund 80% of the infrastructure for the upcoming 2030 World Cup.
