Air Chief Aneke Highlights Ground Training Command’s Role in Air Power

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has identified the Ground Training Command (GTC) of the Nigerian Air Force located in Enugu, as the core of its air power, underlining its essential function in cultivating disciplined, adept and mission-ready personnel.

During a two-day operational tour of the Ground Training Command and various other NAF units in Enugu, Air Marshal Aneke communicated that a modern air force's effectiveness relies not only on its aircraft and technological advancements but significantly on the caliber of its technical and support staff.

He indicated that the Ground Training Command, via rigorous training, standardized curricula, and ongoing professional development initiatives, equips the NAF with the necessary technical expertise and operational attitudes required to maintain high standards of flying, safety, and combat efficiency throughout the Service.

The Air Chief remarked that the performance and motivation of a well-trained ground crew are pivotal in determining the Nigerian Air Force’s operational successes.

A statement from the Nigerian Air Force's Director of Public Relations and Information, Ehimen Ejodame, revealed that the purpose of the visit was to reinforce the organization’s dedication to operational readiness, national security, and sustainable development.

The statement further noted that this visit is part of broader efforts to enhance training institutions, improve infrastructure, and adjust capabilities to meet emerging security threats.

A significant aspect of the visit involved discussions with the Enugu State Government aimed at fortifying civil-military collaboration. In a courtesy visit to the Government House, Air Marshal Aneke praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his unwavering support towards NAF personnel and facilities, especially in the areas of accommodation and essential services.

He defined this partnership as a stellar example of local support for national security and elaborated on the NAF’s long-term welfare programs, which include housing initiatives, agricultural schemes, and agro-allied projects designed to boost personnel welfare and foster local economic activity.

In addition, the Air Chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's dedication to collaborating with other security agencies through intelligence initiatives to ensure peace and stability in Enugu State and the broader South-East region.

While at the Ground Training Command, Air Marshal Aneke received a briefing from the Air Officer Commanding, A.G. Kehinde, regarding training reforms, facility enhancements, and personnel development strategies. He subsequently assessed training capabilities and operational resources, expressing approval of the advancements achieved.

In reciprocation, Governor Mbah reiterated the state government's willingness to provide land for resettlement housing and NAF agricultural endeavors, while promising continued cooperation with the Nigerian Air Force to promote security, peace, and development throughout the region.
