Senator Aminu Tambuwal, who represents the Sokoto South Senatorial District, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This decision was communicated in a letter directed to the Ward Chairperson of Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward in the Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a copy of the letter obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tambuwal stated: “I am writing to formally submit my resignation as a member of the PDP.
He elaborated that the continuous internal strife, disagreements in leadership, and divisions within the party at several levels have rendered it increasingly difficult for him to remain actively involved and dedicated as a party member.
“The current disputes have, regrettably, undermined the unity and direction that were once hallmarks of our party.
“Please accept this correspondence as my formal notification of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Tambuwal served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 until 2015 and subsequently became the governor of Sokoto State in 2015 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress.
He later switched to the PDP in the same year and was re-elected as governor in 2019. After completing his second term in 2023, he won a senatorial seat representing the Sokoto South.
