The Ondo State Security Network, commonly referred to as Amotekun, successfully rescued a man named Segun Makinde and his 15-year-old son from kidnappers.
The rescue operation occurred late at night along Oda Road in the Akure South Local Government Area.
According to Corps Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the victims were taken by armed abductors at Pelebe, located on the outskirts of Akure, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on March 27, 2026.
Adeleye reported that the Amotekun Rapid Response Squad engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle at approximately 1:00 a.m., which compelled the assailants to flee, leaving the victims behind.
Recalling the harrowing experience, Makinde shared that he was attacked shortly after returning home that evening.
He detailed how armed assailants ambushed him at his house, shot at his vehicle, and forcibly dragged him into the bush after inflicting injuries with machetes.
Initially, he stated that there were about five kidnappers, but they merged with additional armed individuals as they moved further into the forest.
“They marched us through the bush for hours, beating me and threatening to kill us if we resisted,” he described.
Makinde recounted that he and his son took advantage of an opportunity to escape when they heard voices nearby.
Unbeknownst to them, Amotekun operatives were already strategically stationed in the vicinity.
“As we fled, the kidnappers opened fire, but the Amotekun operatives responded immediately. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, we managed to escape further into the bush,” he explained.
After several minutes of hiding, the operatives eventually discovered and rescued them.
Following their rescue, security personnel provided them with urgent medical assistance and transported them to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
“They treated our injuries and ensured we were safe. I am thankful for their quick response,” Makinde expressed.
