Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (rtd) has officially resigned as the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services in Kano State.
The resignation was officially communicated in a letter directed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf through the Secretary to the State Government, dated January 26, 2026.
In his letter, the retired officer expressed his appreciation to the governor for the faith placed in him, recalling his initial appointment as the Director General of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023 prior to his promotion to commissioner.
He mentioned that his choice to resign was influenced by recent political changes, highlighting that his decision was made in consideration of what he believes to be in the best interest of both the state and the current administration.
“Due to the recent developments, I believe that stepping aside is in the best interest of the state and this administration. This decision, although challenging, came after careful thought,” he stated.
Umaru noted that his tenure in government was rooted in the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, spearheaded by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, emphasizing values such as discipline, justice, and dedication to citizen service.
In a similar development, Nasiru Sule Garo, who held the position of Commissioner for Special Duties, has also resigned.
Garo made his resignation known through a letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, dated January 26, wherein he shared that his decision stemmed from meaningful reflection, honoring the privilege he felt serving the people of Kano State.
“I am profoundly thankful for the trust and encouragement I received throughout my appointment. It has been a true privilege to serve the citizens of Kano State, and I cherish my contributions to the state's progress alongside committed colleagues,” he expressed.
Garo affirmed his readiness to ensure a seamless transition, offering his assistance during the handover process.
He expressed his gratitude to the governor and the state government for the opportunity to serve, wishing Kano State ongoing prosperity and advancement.
