The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially launched its Environment and Sanitation Sub-Committee as part of the preparations for the upcoming 2026 National Convention, with a focus on ensuring a clean and safe environment throughout the event.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, led by the former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, who holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Convention Central Committee.
The committee is set to be chaired by Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented at the ceremony by the state’s Commissioner for Environment.
During his address, Anyim expressed his confidence in the committee's ability to meet its objectives, emphasizing that a tidy and organized environment is vital for the success of the convention as well as for enhancing the party's image.
He also commended Uche Ekwunife, the committee's Secretary, for demonstrating excellent organizational skills and commitment.
In her speech, Ekwunife conveyed her gratitude to the party leadership for their trust in the committee, stating that strategic planning has already commenced to guarantee a hygienic and effectively managed environment before, during, and after the convention.
She outlined plans for a sensitization initiative titled "Walk for Safe Environment and Safety," aimed at encouraging environmental responsibility among participants and stakeholders.
Ekwunife highlighted that the committee would operate under the guiding theme, "Cleaner Abuja, Great Convention," which is part of the broader "Keep APC Convention Clean Initiative."
The APC National Convention is scheduled for March 28 and 29 in Abuja, with the committee promising to work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to uphold environmental standards throughout the duration of the event.
