The Adamawa State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially received Abba Abubakar, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, following his transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amidst political changes leading up to the 2027 elections.
During the reception at the APC state secretariat in Yola, the party chairman, Barrister Shuaibu Idris, indicated that Abba's switch was a significant sign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's increasing acceptance across the nation, even among opposition elites. He characterized this decision as a robust expression of faith in the current administration.
Idris noted that the choice of a prominent opposition figure's son to align with the ruling party further demonstrated Tinubu's growing influence that transcends political and familial boundaries. He commended Abba for making a courageous and selfless decision, emphasizing the prioritization of national interests over personal emotions.
The chairman guaranteed that the newcomer would be afforded equal rights and opportunities within the APC, underscoring the party's dedication to justice and fairness for all members. He also conveyed that the state leadership, including the National Security Adviser, welcomed Abba warmly into the APC family.
Mustapha Atiku Ribadu, the party’s organizing secretary, described the incident as historic, pointing out that it coincided with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's defection from Kano State to the APC on the same day. He acknowledged Abba Atiku Abubakar's political insight and his capacity for independent judgment.
In his address, Abba Atiku Abubakar expressed gratitude to the party's leadership and members for their warm welcome, stating that it reinforced his commitment to working toward the APC's success. He vowed to rally the support necessary for President Tinubu's reelection in 2027, pledging his allegiance to the party.
The event was celebrated with a festive atmosphere, as party militants, youth groups, and supporters gathered in large numbers to greet the new member.
