The Anambra State Police Command reports the involvement of a 21-year-old apprentice, whose identity has not been disclosed, in the death of his employer on Sunday in the Fegge neighborhood of Onitsha.
On Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed to reporters that the suspect has been taken into custody.
Ikenga also revealed that a pestle, suspected to have been the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene of the crime.
'In the course of their discussion, the employer rebuked the apprentice for inappropriate behavior, including theft from the shop, drug use, and late- night returns,' stated Ikenga. 'This confrontation escalated into a violent encounter, during which the apprentice struck his employer on the head with a pestle from the kitchen.'
Further details indicated that the victim's spouse was also rescued and transported to a hospital, where she is now receiving medical attention.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the case has been assigned to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation aimed at delivering justice.
A witness, who requested to remain anonymous, corroborated the police report, stating that the apprentice attacked his employer following a reprimand concerning his conduct.
