Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have secured the release of two individuals who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers.
The rescued persons have been identified as 24-year-old Musibau Kehinde Tracy and 39-year-old Edewor John. They were reportedly taken by armed assailants from the Izakagbo/Iwu community and held in a nearby forest.
The state police spokesperson, Wunmi Ikoedem, confirmed that the command received intelligence regarding the abductions in the affected community and its surrounding areas. Following this report, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, issued an order for immediate operational deployment and proactive policing measures across the region.
According to Ikoedem, on April 5, 2026, a carefully planned ambush operation was executed. This operation led to the interception of the suspected kidnappers at Iyera, a location situated along the pipeline route beyond the Ovia River in the Ovia North East Local Government Area.
The police engagement with the suspects resulted in a gun battle, during which the victims were safely recovered without sustaining any injuries.
Ikoedem further stated that the rescued individuals are currently under police protection and are receiving the necessary care. Their families have been duly notified of their safe recovery.
The police spokesperson also indicated that ongoing efforts are in place to track down and apprehend the suspects who managed to escape, with the aim of bringing them to justice.
