The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) is set to enhance its initiatives focused on support mechanisms, business development workshops, and improving access to funding for its members.
This announcement was made by the newly elected APWEN President, Engr. Chinyere Nnena Igwegbe, during her inauguration as the 19th President at a ceremony held in Abuja over the weekend.
Igwegbe reiterated that APWEN's goal is to serve as the foremost platform for women engineers by fostering excellence, innovation, and sustainable development.
She highlighted the need for strategic planning to guide APWEN's growth, stating that her primary focus will revolve around research, innovation, and development, with an aim to positively influence the local environment, especially in advancing the girl child and STEM initiatives.
In her address, she underscored the importance of nurturing young engineers while also enhancing their employability through skills training and entrepreneurship opportunities. Additionally, she indicated that efforts to strengthen collaboration and expand membership will be prioritized.
Igwegbe also called upon APWEN members to support her vision for establishing a functional National Secretariat and pointed out an upcoming International Conference designed to provide solutions and be driven by industry needs.
During the event, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, acknowledged the critical role of women engineers in advancing engineering disciplines and congratulated Igwegbe for earning the trust of her peers.
