Troops engaged in Operation HADIN KAI have thwarted several attacks by ISWAP militants on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) located in Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram, resulting in the death of 11 terrorists.
This information was made public by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, in a statement released on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The coordinated assaults occurred between February 28 and the early hours of March 1.
Specifically, five terrorists were killed in Mayanti, three in Gajiram, and two in Gajigana.
During the Mayanti raid, an officer lost his life, while another soldier sustained injuries in the Gajiram attack.
Details reveal that Major Umaru Ibrahim Mairiga was killed while defending a military installation during the offensive on Sunday.
The statement emphasized that the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) displayed remarkable resilience and operational superiority by effectively repelling these coordinated ISWAP assaults, while also ramping up offensive efforts across Sector 2.
The attacks, which occurred from late February 28 to early March 1, reflect the increasing desperation of terrorist elements, who are under significant pressure regarding their bases, supply lines, and leadership.
The troops successfully defended their positions at Gajigana, and while they suffered casualties at Mayanti and Gajiram, they inflicted substantial losses on the terrorists, recovering significant military equipment as well.
On February 28, 2026, FOB Mayanti faced a major assault from a large group of ISWAP militants.
Despite the threat of intense enemy fire, the determined troops held their ground, with reinforcements overcoming ambushes and improvised explosive device (IED) threats to drive off the attackers.
Search operations confirmed five enemy fatalities and yielded equipment, including three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, three RPG bombs, and large amounts of 7.62mm ammunition, suggesting further casualties among the attackers. Unfortunately, the loss of an officer was confirmed.
On March 1, at around 1:15 AM, terrorists equipped with PKT guns, RPGs, and armed drones launched an assault on FOB Gajiram, but were successfully repelled by resolute troops, aided by air support.
Three dead insurgents were retrieved along the route of their retreat, along with four AK-47 rifles, five anti-tank bombs, three homemade mortar bombs, an armed drone, six loaded 7.62mm NATO magazines, tools for barbed wire cutting, specialized ammunition, and poisoned arrows—items left behind as the militants fled. A soldier in this operation was airlifted for urgent medical treatment by a Nigerian Army helicopter.
In further operations under Sector 2, troops confronted terrorists at Kayawa Village, compelling them to retreat and abandon a tricycle, three motorcycles, and five bicycles.
The soldiers also destroyed identified support structures, arrested two ISWAP logistics personnel, and confiscated medical supplies used for treating injured terrorists.
Moreover, during an ambush near Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba LGA, two terrorists were neutralized, and two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, a bicycle, and other assorted items were seized.
“All positions remain securely under our control, and the extent of recoveries and confirmed losses among the enemy further highlights the diminishing operational capacity of ISWAP factions.”
