Arsenal continued their strong hold over Chelsea with a 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
This highly contested London derby was determined by goals from set pieces, with Jurrien Timber netting the decisive goal after an own goal had earlier equalized Wiliam Saliba’s initial score.
Chelsea faced a setback in the second half when they went down to ten men, yet Arsenal's success marked their second consecutive win and reinforced their dominance in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal took advantage of Chelsea's nervousness early in the game, opening the scoring just 21 minutes in. Saliba headed home from a corner, and the ball deflected off a Chelsea defender into the net.
The Blues managed to level the score before halftime when Reece James's corner kick was inadvertently redirected into the net by Piero Hincape, resulting in a 1-1 score at the break.
After the interval, Chelsea appeared to improve and created chances through Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro. However, against the run of play, Timber scored with a powerful header that secured the lead for Arsenal.
Chelsea's Pedro Neto received a second yellow card within three minutes, marking Chelsea's seventh red card this season, which further hampered their efforts.
With this win, Arsenal increased their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points, accumulating 64 points from 28 games. Chelsea, on the other hand, has not won any of their last three EPL matches and remains sixth, six points off the crucial fourth place.
