The four-person Artemis II crew embarked on their journey to the moon from Kennedy Space Centre on April 1st, 2026. For the past ten days, they have been orbiting the moon, providing unique views and insights from their vantage point in outer space. During their mission, they have named a lunar crater and offered personal reflections on their experience.

Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen have been sharing their thoughts, prompting deep contemplation on how Earth is perceived. The astronauts have emphasized that despite human-created differences such as race and nationality, Earth is a shared home for all.

Christina Koch shared her perspective, noting that seeing Earth from afar highlighted its beauty and the vastness of space around it. She observed, "It truly emphasised how alike we are, how the same thing keeps every single person on planet Earth alive. We evolved on the same planet, and we have some shared things about how we love and live that are just universal." She added that this shared experience is made more precious when contrasted with the surrounding emptiness.

Victor Glover reflected on the importance of their mission's observations, stating that from their distant perspective, Earth appears as a singular entity. "You have this amazing place. You guys are talking to us because we are in a spaceship really far from Earth, but you are on a spaceship called Earth that was created to give us a place in the universe and the cosmos," he explained. Glover emphasized that Earth is an "oasis" in the emptiness of the universe, a place where humanity exists together.

He continued, "As we go into Easter Sunday, thinking about all the cultures all around the world... this is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are, and that we are the same thing and that we have to get through this together."

The crew's reflections underscore the idea that humanity must work together, as inhabitants of a single planet. They advocate for looking beyond divisions and discrimination, recognizing that Earth is our shared dwelling, and our collective existence depends on unity.
