The Bauchi State Police Command has captured Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, known as 'World Boy', who is linked to a string of violent criminal activities within Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement released on March 12, 2026, by the police spokesperson, DSP Nafiu Habib, Auwal has gained a reputation for his involvement in Sara-Suka thuggery.
The 22-year-old suspect was apprehended on March 8, 2026, by operatives from the 'C' Divisional Police Headquarters following a distress call received by the police.
Reports indicate that Auwal attacked a resident identified as Shamsuddeen in Anguwan Sarakuna, stabbing him in the leg before making off with his Tecno POP 5 phone.
Further investigations linked Auwal to another incident that occurred on March 7, where he, in conjunction with another assailant, attacked a woman named Ijeoma Neonye and stole her mobile phones after stabbing her as well.
Additionally, Auwal was also reported to have stabbed Usama Abdullahi in the shoulder and stolen his Tecno POP 5 phone.
As stated, "The operatives of 'C' Divisional Police Headquarters in Bauchi acted on a distress report on March 8, 2026, around 11:50 AM, apprehending Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, also known as 'World Boy', while he was in the midst of robbing Shamsuddeen of a Tecno POP 5 phone worth N20,000 after inflicting a stab wound to his leg."
The statement elaborated that Auwal's criminal activities are linked to Bala Mohammed, known as 'Balagus.' On March 7, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, the duo, armed with knives, assaulted Ijeoma Neonye in Magaji Quarters, stabbing her and stealing an Infinix Smart 7 Plus valued at N120,000, along with N280,000 in cash, a Rolex wristwatch worth N35,000, and other items.
Previously, on February 22, 2026, at around 2:00 PM, Auwal and an accomplice named Amir, who is currently at large, attacked Usama Abdullahi, stabbing him on the shoulder and stealing a Tecno POP 5 phone valued at N70,000. While Bala Balagus has been caught, Amir is still evading capture.
The police statement described Auwal's notoriety in Magaji Quarters, Anguwan Sarakuna, and Rafin Makaranta, citing various violent confrontations associated with him. He had previously faced prosecution and was convicted in 2024 without the option of bail, but he returned to the community shortly after and resumed his criminal activities.
Recovered from the suspect during his arrest were two sharp knives, a pair of scissors, and a Tecno POP 5 phone belonging to his first victim.
In a related incident on March 8, 2026, at around 4:00 PM, a 24-year-old woman named Magdalene Pius from Gwallameji reported to the 'E' Division Yalwa that Usama Salihu, aged 21, had threatened her with a knife during an attempted robbery on March 7, stealing an Infinix Smart 9 valued at N125,000 and an Itel keypad phone worth N15,000.
The police were able to arrest Salihu and successfully recover the Infinix Smart 9, which is now considered as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu assured the residents of the state that the Command would continue to strengthen security measures throughout Bauchi.
