Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has encouraged the people of the state to gather in large numbers to greet President Bola Tinubu on his scheduled visit on April 10, 2026.
Governor Diri made this appeal during an Easter Sunday service held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his hometown, Sampou, located in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. He underscored the importance of the presidential visit as an opportunity for Bayelsans to demonstrate their renowned hospitality.
The governor highlighted that the projects slated for inauguration during the President's one-day stay are fundamental to the state's economic progress and overall transformation.
He also expressed a wish for continued unity throughout Bayelsa State, noting that peaceful coexistence is a hallmark of the Ijaw people.
"I call on all Bayelsans to come out en masse to welcome Mr. President and accord him the hospitality that we are known for. It is part of our culture as Ijaw people to warmly receive our guests," Governor Diri stated.
"We are known for peace and unity. Let us continue to uphold these values as we move forward as one people."
Governor Diri reiterated his administration's dedication to advancing the state's development, affirming a continued focus on infrastructure to enhance Bayelsa's appeal for investment, tourism, and economic growth.
He identified the 60-megawatt gas turbine project, set to be inaugurated, as vital for improving the state's electricity supply.
"Power is a major driver of economic growth, and this project is key to our development agenda."
The governor also stressed the historical significance of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma bridge, describing it as a landmark achievement for the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
"For over 60 years, our people in Southern Ijaw have had no road access to Yenagoa. This bridge changes that reality."
"These are legacy projects that will positively impact our people and open up Bayelsa for greater opportunities."
Reflecting on the Easter celebration, he emphasized the need to consider the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
"The lesson of the death and resurrection of Christ is that of love. God loves us so much that He laid down His life for us. We must therefore love one another, stay united, and avoid actions that contradict what we celebrate today."
Among those present at the church service were the governor's wife, Dr. Gloria Diri, Deputy Governor Peter Akpe, Head of Service Dr. Wisdom Sawyer, and Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo.
Others in attendance included the member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1, Chief Ayibanegiyefa Egba; her Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1 counterpart, Werinipre Pamoh; former Speaker of the State Assembly and General Manager of the Bayelsa Housing and Property Development Authority, Dr. Tonye Isenah; former Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei; former state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dennis Otiotio; Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and other government appointees and officials.
