The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially relieved ACP Benjamin Hundeyin of his duties as the Force Public Relations Officer only six months after he stepped into the role, according to sources.
His removal was reportedly sanctioned on Thursday, March 5, 2025, although the reasons behind this decision have not been disclosed. This change comes amidst an organizational shake-up within the force following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's appointment of Tunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police (IGP), succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, who had been in charge since 2023.
A source informed THE WHISTLER, "The removal of the Force Public Relations Officer was enacted this morning. We are uncertain about who will succeed him, as many believed he would serve for a longer term given his qualifications. However, when a new IGP takes office, it is common to see some roles vacated, and unfortunately, he was among those affected."
The specific individual expected to succeed Hundeyin has yet to be named, raising concerns about the police's ability to effectively communicate amidst increasing operational demands in recent weeks.
When reached for comment, Hundeyin opted not to respond, stating he was "unavailable right now" and encouraged inquiries to be directed to spokespersons for the FCT or state police commands.
