The Borno State Police Command has reported that armed individuals believed to belong to Boko Haram launched an attack on a herdsman settlement located in the Konduga Local Government Area, leading to the death of one individual and the theft of about 1,400 sheep.
In a communication issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth Daso, indicated that the violent episode transpired in Wuturo village, which is a settlement primarily inhabited by nomads, situated close to Konduga town.
According to Daso, the situation was initially brought to light by members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, who reported the event to the relevant authorities at the Konduga Police Division.
The assailants reportedly approached the village late in the evening on five motorcycles, engaging in the violent act rapidly.
"According to the information relayed to us by the Miyetti Allah association at the Konduga Police Division, at around 10:30 PM on March 10, 2026, an unidentified group of gunmen riding on multiple motorcycles stormed the settlement," the statement detailed.
The police further disclosed that preliminary investigations showed a fatality occurred during the ambush, while another individual was injured.
"Our initial findings revealed that Ahmadu Baida, aged 40, suffered fatal injuries from gunfire, whereas Mohammadu Baida, aged 30, was shot in the left leg. Additionally, the culprits made off with 1,400 sheep from the herdsmen," the statement explained.
In response to the alarming incident, security personnel were dispatched to the affected area.
"Responding to the report, a collaborative team comprising officers from the Police, Military, and other security operatives, including the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters led by the Divisional Police Officer of Konduga, promptly arrived at the scene," Daso mentioned in his statement.
The victims of the assault were subsequently taken to a nearby medical facility, where the unfortunate news of one individual’s death was confirmed.
"The victims were transferred to the hospital; tragically, Ahmadu Baida was declared dead upon arrival by medical staff, while the other injured person is stable and recovering well," he added.
The state's Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, condemned the attack, offering his condolences to the bereaved family.
Moreover, the police representative affirmed that efforts are underway by security agencies to track down the assailants and retrieve the stolen livestock.
"Tactical and intelligence strategies are being employed across the impacted region and neighboring communities to bolster security operations," the official concluded.
