Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated attacks on military bases in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok in Borno State, resulting in the elimination of several leaders from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The assaults, initiated on the evening of March 5, 2026, and extending into the early hours of the following day, faced fierce resistance from vigilant and committed soldiers.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, shared this information in a statement released on March 6.
The statement noted that numerous brave soldiers lost their lives during the intense combat.
Uba acknowledged that one distinguished officer was killed while courageously leading his men in the frontline against the assailants.
"Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully hindered organized terrorist attempts to seize troop locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok," read the statement.
The determined attacks, which took place between approximately 22:30 and 03:00 the next morning, were met with strong resistance from alert troops who defended their positions amidst the ordeal.
In a well-coordinated counteraction, soldiers executed simultaneous flanking maneuvers with support from reinforcement units from Sectors 1 and 2, successfully routing the terrorists and forcing them into disorganized retreats.
Despite certain areas of the defensive line being temporarily breached, troops rapidly counterattacked to regain control.
During the fierce confrontation, several high-ranking terrorist leaders, including key Amirs (Leaders), were eliminated, along with many insurgent fighters during the counter-offensive.
Although some facilities sustained damage during the firefights, all military installations remain unequivocally under the control of OPHK forces.
In close collaboration with the Air Component, multiple precision airstrikes were executed overnight targeting retreating terrorist groups and identified hostile positions, further incapacitating many insurgents and diminishing their combat effectiveness.
Ground troops continue to conduct operations in the affected areas, recovering bodies of terrorists, as well as weapons and other combat gear.
Regrettably, several courageous soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, including an officer who valiantly fought at the front while leading his fellow soldiers against the attackers.
Their sacrifices illustrate the unwavering dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces to safeguarding the nation and protecting its citizens.
“The botched attacks indicate the growing desperation of terrorist factions under consistent operational pressure in the region. Operation HADIN KAI continues to maintain firm control over the battleground,” stated the report.
