Dr. Christopher Ewhrudjakpo, the sibling of the former Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with a significant number of ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.
While he was alive, Senator Ewhrudjakpo chose not to join his superior, Governor Douye Diri, in departing from the PDP to the APC last year.
The exiting PDP members, who were loyal supporters of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, have dismantled the political foundation of Ofoni, a locality that was previously considered a PDP stronghold.
At the defection event held in Yenagoa, the state capital, Dr. Christopher Ewhrudjakpo articulated that the community has consistently backed Governor Diri's administration from its inception and cannot turn against what they regard as their government.
He declared that the choice to switch parties was made collectively by the community members and expressed confidence that those who have yet to make the switch will soon follow suit.
Dr. Ewhrudjakpo assured Governor Diri and his Deputy of the unwavering support from the Offoni Community located in Sagbama Local Government Area, emphasizing that their connection with the Prosperity Government remains unbreakable.
In response, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Peter Akpe, expressed satisfaction with the defectors’ decision to join the APC voluntarily, asserting that Governor Diri does not manipulate individuals into making political choices.
He recognized the genuine support that the Prosperity Administration has historically enjoyed from the Offoni Community and welcomed the new members into their political fold, encouraging them to feel at home in their new party.
