A remarkable video has documented the moment a woman, handcuffed and in police custody, escaped from a patrol vehicle in Michigan by wriggling through an open window.

On March 28, the unidentified woman was taken into custody after a Muskegon Heights police officer encountered a vehicle parked outside an abandoned establishment, according to reports from ABC13. Officers identified the driver but could not immediately recognize the female passenger.

After utilizing a fingerprint scanner, law enforcement officers discovered she had a prior parole violation. Subsequently, she was handcuffed and placed in the rear of a patrol car.

A viral livestream shared on social media depicted the woman dressed in black peering out of the half-open rear window of the vehicle, seemingly assessing the area for officers nearby.

She then managed to slip out of the window headfirst while still in handcuffs, lowered one leg, and made her escape onto the street as shown in the footage.

As of March 30, the woman remains at large. Later that same evening, residents reported an attempted break-in at their home around 4:20 PM. Authorities believe the woman who escaped from police custody may be connected to this home invasion, which occurred less than an hour later.

In addition to her existing parole violation, she now faces new accusations of fleeing from law enforcement and felony home invasion, according to police statements.
