Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu, the Presiding Pastor of Rhema Deliverance Mission in Awka, has publicly condemned the celebration of Valentine’s Day, labeling it as unchristian and linked to moral decay.
In a sermon delivered during a Sunday service, Nwachukwu, who also serves as the Chief Medical Director of Princeton Specialist Hospital in Awka, urged his followers to refrain from taking part in the festivities that fall on February 14.
He stated that the day represents a departure from godly principles and should not be endorsed by the Christian community.
"Valentine’s Day has morphed into a day of global immorality. This celebration does not originate from God. Christians should steer clear of it," he asserted.
The pastor emphasized that the concept of Valentine's Day lacks a foundation in biblical scripture and warned attendees against being swayed by popular public opinion, even when endorsed by notable individuals.
"Though it may be widely celebrated by many prominent figures, as Christians, it's imperative to be firm in our convictions and instruct our children accordingly," he noted.
Nwachukwu proposed that love should be expressed within the confines of marriage and guided by spiritual principles, rather than being restricted to a specific date.
"As spouses, one can celebrate love every day, and it shouldn't be limited to only a particular occasion. Singles should refrain from celebrating love when it leads to sexual immorality," he remarked.
He further cautioned Christians against embracing worldly customs, highlighting that genuine faith demands personal commitment and self- accountability.
"You cannot serve God and still partake in worldly practices. A true Christian should firmly declare, ‘I do not partake in Valentine’s Day celebrations; I am a Christian.’ This journey is personal, and each individual is accountable for their choices," he commented.
Nwachukwu urged his congregation to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Bible, encouraging them to distance themselves from practices that contradict their faith.
