A Catholic Priest has drawn attention to the issue of "people-pleasing" among members of the Catholic faith. He shared a personal anecdote from a wedding reception involving the Master of Ceremonies (MC) to illustrate his point.

According to Rev. Fr. Evarisrus Bassey, who posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the incident occurred many years ago at a wedding celebration. Upon being asked to offer a prayer, he began with the traditional Catholic invocation: "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…".

Following his prayer, the MC, who the priest identified as also being Catholic, remarked that he "did not even consider the non-Catholics that are here; he began with In the name of the Father..."

This experience was one of the reasons the priest stated he stopped attending wedding receptions. He emphasized that when he performs his duties within the church, he does so without compromising his faith.

"The way some of our Catholics tend to do people-pleasing is alarming," the priest stated, expressing his concern over the observed behaviour.
