The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced that Dangote Petroleum Refinery enhanced its domestic supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to 40.1 million litres per day during the month of January.
This represents an increase of 8 million litres compared to the 32 million litres supplied in December.
In its report for January, NMDPRA indicated that the 40.1 million litres was more than 60 percent of the 75 million litres the refinery had planned to supply in this timeframe.
Additionally, the report highlighted that the national consumption of PMS stood at 60.2 million litres per day.
Moreover, it noted that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and other entities imported approximately 24.8 million litres of PMS on a daily basis.
Overall, a total of 64.9 million litres of PMS entered the market during this period.
It is pertinent to recall that Dangote Petroleum Refinery stated it had achieved its optimal capacity of processing 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
This achievement follows the optimization of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and the Motor Spirit (MS) production block, which supports steady-controlled operations at Africa’s largest oil refining plant.
The company also mentioned that it has initiated an extensive 72-hour series of test runs in conjunction with its technology licensor, UOP, to verify operational efficiency and ensure all critical parameters align with global standards.
In December, the refinery had moved to announce plans for supplying 50 million litres of PMS daily to the Nigerian market between December 2025 and January 2026.
This initiative was aimed at guaranteeing consistent fuel availability nationwide throughout the festive season and into the new year.
Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, revealed this plan during a visit to the refinery and the Dangote Fertiliser complex by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
Dangote also confirmed that the refinery would provide 50 million litres of PMS daily starting from December 1.
