On Thursday, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, inaugurated the Lantoro–Oke- Yidi–Isale Ake Junction Road located in Abeokuta South Local Government Area. He characterized this project as an essential element of a strategic infrastructure initiative designed to bolster connectivity and stimulate economic development across the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
With this recent inauguration, Governor Abiodun stated that his administration has now completed construction on 29 roads in Ogun Central over the past six years. He further divulged that an additional 10 road projects are presently under construction and will be unveiled shortly, bringing the total to 39 completed projects.
He also announced that work will commence immediately on the reconstruction of the Carwash–Moore Junction Road, emphasizing the significance of the state capital as both the administrative and political center of Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun illustrated that the road constructions in this district were selected via a participatory governance approach that includes traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, and community stakeholders.
"In the past six years, we have managed to build 29 roads in Ogun Central. The selection of these roads was facilitated through our inclusive governance model. Meetings involving our kabiyesi, the Alake of Egbaland, and various community representatives were held to determine the most critical roads needing urgent attention," he remarked.
He affirmed that his administration is committed to achieving results amid what he described as "sponsored propaganda" from detractors, and indicated that more infrastructure projects are expected to be commissioned between now and July.
Abiodun highlighted the Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Road as a crucial route in the state capital, granting access to significant institutions such as Sacred Heart Hospital, the School of Nursing, and a prominent Muslim prayer ground, while also serving as an alternative route within the city.
He asserted that the project epitomizes his government's commitment to equitable infrastructure distribution and its dedication to leaving a lasting legacy through diligent governance.
Ade Akinsanya, the commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, stated that the newly commissioned road fulfills promises made during the campaign and will significantly alleviate transportation challenges while promoting commercial activities in the region.
In his address, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, recounted his longstanding connection to the area, revealing that a school farm he was associated with was previously situated along this road. He underscored the importance of the road in linking medical facilities and serving as an alternative bypass within the capital.
Additionally, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, representing the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, praised the governor for ensuring fair project distribution throughout the state.
Local residents greeted the development enthusiastically. Nurudeen Olaleye, Chairman of Alternative Medicine and a community member, noted that the road had been in poor condition for nearly three decades. Meanwhile, Rasak Adebayo Solebo, representing transport unions, expressed that the road's rehabilitation would lower vehicle maintenance costs and improve commuting experiences for both operators and passengers.
