Officers from the Delta State Police Command's Special Assignment Team have successfully dismantled a suspected cult killing network believed to be involved in recent violent altercations in the town of Ughelli.
This operation was initiated in response to an uptick in cult-related violence and killings across Ughelli and neighboring areas. Following this situation, the state Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, ordered an enhanced, intelligence-based pursuit of cult members and other violent offenders.
The string of cult attacks in the region has led to numerous fatalities, impacting many young men, including the younger sibling of the Ughelli Kingdom's king, HRH Ojakovo Oharisi III.
In alignment with the Commissioner’s directive, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson apprehended two suspects: Warri Ochuko, aged 40, from Orogun Community, and Lucky Okohwoake, aged 23, from Afiesere Community, both located within Ughelli North Local Government Area.
SP Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a press release on January 28, 2026. He mentioned that during interrogation, the suspects provided confessions that included critical intelligence, which facilitated a well-coordinated operation across the Ughelli metropolis.
Following the initial arrests, six more individuals were also taken into custody: Richard William, aged 28, from Uwheru Community; Onorode Pius, 27, from Otor-Udu Community in Udu LGA; Sunday Jakpor, 20, from Orhunwhun Community in Udu LGA; Victory Ogbemudia, 25, from Oleh Community in Isoko South LGA; Raymond Arhiakpore, 39, from Agbara Community; and Precious Wanogho, 34, from Orogun Community, all within Delta State.
Edafe stated that a homemade firearm and four live cartridges were seized from the first two suspects.
"Initial investigations have shown that the suspects acknowledged their affiliation with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, admitting their role in the killing of Alex Adanike, 37, which occurred on January 15, 2026, in the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli, Ughelli North LGA," the statement indicated.
Additionally, on January 26, 2026, the CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on solid intelligence, raided a suspected hideout in the Irapa vicinity of Sapele town and captured three more suspects.
“The arrested individuals include Kome Temienoro, 25, from Jesse Community in Ethiope East LGA; Ogaga Omogene, 17, from Ugbuwe Community in Ethiope East LGA; and Biokoro Francis, 42, from Okogborode Community in Sapele LGA, all in Delta State,” the statement reported.
A search during this operation led to the discovery of a wooden-carved pistol, a battle axe, a bulletproof vest, various quantities of illegal drugs, and other incriminating items.
Moreover, a white Toyota Venza, reportedly used in criminal activities, was confiscated. Ongoing profiling and investigations aim to establish the suspects' full involvement in criminal acts, including cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offenses.
In parallel developments, the Commissioner of Police reassured the community of the Command's commitment to eradicating cultism and other violent crimes within Delta State.
He added, "The ongoing manhunt continues, and we urge the public to provide timely and credible information, ensuring absolute confidentiality."
