Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Bauchi State. He stated that his entry into the race is a direct response to considerable pressure from citizens, community leaders, and party supporters across the state.
Wunti, who has a background as an oil and gas technocrat, previously served as the Managing Director of both the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) and the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC). He made his declaration on Friday at the local government secretariat of the APC along Gombe Road.
The formal declaration was made during a courtesy visit to the local government party executives, following persistent appeals from Bauchi residents for him to step forward.
"I have accepted this contest due to the urgent need to rescue the future of Bauchi's unemployed youth," Wunti stated.
The official announcement and presentation to the grassroots party leadership have put an end to ongoing speculation within Bauchi State regarding his political ambitions.
Addressing the gathering at the party secretariat, Wunti clarified that his decision to vie for the governorship was not motivated by personal ambition. Instead, it stems from the continuous calls from the people of Bauchi State who have urged him to provide effective leadership.
Wunti reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and pledged to lead an inclusive administration if elected in 2027. He vowed to ensure equal rights for all residents and prioritise sustainable development across all 20 local government areas of the state.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate the newly inaugurated leadership of the APC in Bauchi Local Government Area, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen the party and fulfil its objectives.
The Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Rt. Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Miya, formally introduced and presented the aspirant to the party leadership. He explained that the visit was intended to familiarise Wunti with key party stakeholders.
The APC Chairman for Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, lauded Wunti as a distinguished son of the local government area, highlighting his significant contributions to human capital development and his impact as a mentor.
"Dr. Bala Wunti's track record is self-evident. His mentorship has guided individuals who are now well-equipped to assume the highest offices, including the governorship," he commented.
Alhaji Biyali assured all aspirants of a fair process and stressed that Wunti’s established record remains a valuable asset as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
This declaration is seen as a move that not only bolsters the party’s prospects in the upcoming gubernatorial election but also builds momentum for progressive leadership in Bauchi State.
Wunti is also recognised for his philanthropic activities and his standing as a respected public figure.
