A driver has been detained by the Lagos State Police Command in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 300-level student at Lagos State University (LASU). The tragic event occurred around 7:00 PM on Saturday in the Igando area.

The victim, identified as Azeezat Adenike AbdulRasheed, was reportedly struck and killed by a vehicle. Following the incident, a video circulated on X showing students converging at the Area M Police Division in Igando. The students were seen protesting and demanding accountability for the student's death, with allegations surfacing that police personnel were attempting to protect the driver and conceal the circumstances of the accident.

In response, the Lagos State Police Command released a statement via its official X handle on Saturday night, April 11, 2026. The command acknowledged the incident as a fatal motor accident and assured the public that an investigation had been initiated. According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Igando had visited the scene immediately after receiving the report. The deceased student's body was transported to the mortuary, and the driver involved was taken into police custody.
