A 56-year-old educator in Limpopo has been apprehended and faces charges after allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old student on school grounds stemming from a disagreement over a confiscated mobile phone.
Authorities reported that the occurrence took place after the teacher accused the pupil of using her phone during an examination and took the device. According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the student was subsequently informed that she needed to bring money to retrieve her phone.
"The phone was taken away, and she was later told to come back with money to get it back. When she returned, the teacher reportedly directed her to follow him to a restroom on the premises where the alleged assault occurred," Ledwaba stated.
The suspect has since been arrested and appeared before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on March 25 as inquiries continue.
Officials have not provided additional information, and the case is still under investigation.
