Fifty-four individuals have been prosecuted by the Ekiti State government for failing to adhere to the monthly environmental sanitation exercise that took place throughout the state last Saturday. The Magistrate Court imposed fines on these 54 offenders, while one person was granted a pardon and subsequently released.
During the monitoring of the exercise in Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Sunday Omoya, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, highlighted the programme's objective: to foster a sense of personal accountability among residents for the upkeep of their surroundings. He issued a warning that any individual found outside without a valid reason during the designated sanitation hours would face legal consequences.
Mr. Ayodele Aluko, the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, also underscored the vital connection between a clean environment and the health of the populace. Aluko stated, “As we strive for progress and development, it is imperative that we also safeguard the health of our citizens. A hygienic environment remains a cornerstone of healthy living.”
