The Federal High Court located in Kaduna State has set a new date for the bail hearing of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, now scheduled for March 31, 2026.
This adjournment transpired after a court session on Tuesday, where both defense and prosecution provided their arguments regarding the bail request.
During the court proceedings, the defendant's attorney, Ukpon Akpan, advocated for granting bail, pointing to constitutional rights and emphasizing the necessity of allowing El-Rufai sufficient time to prepare his defense.
In contrast, the prosecution opposed the bail, asserting that the charges levied against El-Rufai are severe. They raised concerns that permitting bail could hinder ongoing investigations.
Consequently, the presiding judge decided to postpone the hearing of the bail application to March 31.
El-Rufai faces charges related to the alleged conversion and possession of public property, along with accusations of money laundering.
