The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Sunday led the Hawan Nasarawa Durbar at the Government House in Kano, commemorating the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
During the ceremony, Emir Sanusi expressed gratitude towards the Kano State Government for the recognition and honor bestowed upon the emirate.
"We appreciate the honor and recognition being given to us by the Kano State Government," remarked the emir.
He highlighted the importance of unity among the citizens, urging all groups to refrain from any actions that might incite division or tension within the state.
The emir also offered prayers for the ongoing peace and stability in Kano and in Nigeria, encouraging residents to be law-abiding and to support efforts directed at fostering harmony.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf urged the populace to maintain peace and unity throughout the Sallah celebrations.
Represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibril Falgore, the governor described the Durbar as a treasured cultural event that showcases the rich heritage and unity of the people. He acknowledged the citizens for their unwavering support, cooperation, and dedication to peaceful coexistence, emphasizing their essential role in the successful functioning of the administration.
"As we celebrate, I urge all citizens to avoid any actions that could jeopardize the peace and stability of our state. It is crucial for us to uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmonious living," he stated.
Governor Yusuf also appealed to parents and guardians to oversee their children's conduct, ensuring they act responsibly during the festive period.
He assured residents of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that adequate security measures had been implemented to guarantee a tranquil celebration.
According to reports, the governor was absent from the event due to his travel to Lagos for a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum, as shared by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Attendees included the Secretary to the State Government, various commissioners, local government chairpersons, and other high-ranking officials.
