Jumoke Akinjide, who previously held the position of Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has officially left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
Akinjide made this announcement in a letter to the Ward 1 Chairman of the PDP located in the Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday.
The daughter of the late distinguished legal expert, Richard Akinjide, SAN, termed her departure as a 'difficult decision,' highlighting her long-standing membership with the party since 2001.
In her letter, she stated, 'I hereby formally give you notice of my resignation as a member of the PDP, effective immediately. I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection.'
She expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to her during her membership in the party, and for the experiences and relationships she developed throughout her time with the PDP. Furthermore, she wished the party well in its future endeavors.
Akinjide was appointed as Minister of State for the FCT in July 2011 and served under former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration until 2015. In 2014, she also briefly assumed the role of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs.
From May 2001 to September 2003, she worked as the Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters and later took on the role of Special Assistant to the President on G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
There are indications that Akinjide may consider joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following her departure from the PDP.
